A Three-Part Workshop Series
Labour standards and human rights in the wine industry
The Sustainable Wine Roundtable (SWR) is delighted to present an in-depth exploration of labour standards and human rights in the wine industry in our three-part workshop series
Overview
SWR’s research has demonstrated that issues of human and labour rights remain underrepresented in the coverage of most sustainability standards in wine. While environmental considerations such as water and energy management, soil health and minimisation of chemical use are covered by these standards in great detail, there exists an immediate need to address complex labour rights issues. In many cases, ‘human issues’ are limited to factors such as in-job training, and provision of appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
However, it is a matter of some urgency that the wine sector get to grips with more challenging labour rights issues such as modern slavery, bonded and child labour, and the living income. Evolving regulatory pressures, exemplified by the EU’s supply chain due diligence legislation, will mean that addressing these issues will become a matter of market access for many wine producers.
Why attend?
This workshop series aims to shed light on these pressing issues and initiate a collective effort towards their resolution. The SWR has curated a three-part workshop series designed to explore labour conditions and human rights due diligence comprehensively.
