Boutinot Wineswas the first UK importer to sign up for the SWR Bottle Weight Accord (BWA) last year, committing to reduce average bottle weight to 420g or less by the end of 2026. The business works with over 200 producers globally and operates in 45 countries. But Boutinot doesn’t just sell wine—it also produces it. “By combining high quality authentic winemaking with fresh, contemporary branding and packaging, Tuttavia will bring new consumers into the wine category by taking them on a brand experience connecting wine, cocktails and RTDs,” says Deborah Brooks, marketing director at Boutinot.
Whilst canned wine isn’t a blanket solution for the whole industry, it does offer a fantastic packaging alternative. It provides convenience, portability, and a lower carbon footprint. Aluminum is lightweight, shatterproof, infinitely recyclable, and more efficient to transport.

Over the next few months, we’ll host a number of webinars exploring the critical questions surrounding sustainable wine packaging. From carbon footprints to pollution, to the origins of raw materials, these debates will offer a comprehensive look at the complex realities of packaging sustainability. The insights gathered will directly inform SWR’s Packaging Choice Framework, a tool designed to provide the wine industry with clear, evidence-based guidance on selecting sustainable packaging options. Keep an eye out for more details and webinar dates.
